![]() As the great Mr. Geisel (or Dr. Seuss) wrote, "Oh, the places you'll go! There is fun to be done..." This now popular graduation gift is meant to remind us that there are so many exciting things that await us on our journey of life. I have some exciting journeys coming up very soon. For the next six-ish months I will not be spending too much time in the Minni-Apple (see what I did there). Instead I will be seeing the sights of some very historic places and acting all the way. Beginning in April, I will be going on a two month tour with the National Theatre for Children. This touring company brings humorous and education theatre to schools around the US. My one acting partner and I will be on the road in North and South Carolina performing The Resource Force, teaching kids about energy and how to be efficient with it. I will have the fun privilege of playing five different characters and throwing in audience suggested improv throughout the show. If any of you know what kind of "pop" music artists the middle-school aged kids are listening to these days, let me know in the comments below. I have to play a singer that the audience suggests and I don't think they'll be asking me to be Stephen Sondheim. Once I return from my tour, I immediately re-pack my bags and head to St. Croix Falls, WI, to work with Festival theatre! Though I am not yet at liberty to divulge publicly what roles I shall be performing, I can state it is gonna good. I will also be doing improv as well as teaching kiddies. That engagement will happen through October. Throw in a few weddings to the mix, and the next six months are going to be crazy. I wouldn't have it any other way. There really is a lot of "fun to be done."

![]() It's that time, ladies and gents. Time when we use all of our ink printing our headshots and resumes. Time when we look in the mirror and ask, "Am I really going to wear this?" Time when we run through our sixteen bars and sixty-second monologues and hope that they are good enough. Yes, that's right. It's audition season in Minneapolis! Where you try to look cool while trying not to freeze. Thanks winter! >:{ Belated spring wishes aside, this is probably one of the most daunting times in a Minneapolis actor's season. Over the next couple of months, we find if we have work or not over the next year. We have to plan ahead for the entire next year...literally! Conflicts, jobs, birthdays, vacations, other auditions or weddings need to be thought of. Whether you put them down on your conflict sheet is an entirely different matter. Yes, don't worry, I am putting my wedding date on there as a non-negotiable conflict. No matter how much you prepare and think you're ready, you never know what is going to happen. Like the boys and girls in A Chorus Line, you never know what a director is really looking for. I might be too tall, too pale, too large, too anything but what they need. Yet at the end of the day, you have to believe in yourself and know that you did the best that you can do. If you don't land the role, hope that you at least made a good impression in the mind of your auditor. I might not be right every show, but perhaps the director will envision me in something else they have in mind. Here's hoping. To everyone who has auditioned, I hope it went well. To all going to audition, break a leg. To those not auditioning but wanting to, DO IT ALREADY! :) |
